For the 2023 – 2024 school year, Summit Community Care Clinic has added medical care services to existing behavioral health and dental services offered on site at the Upper Blue Elementary School in Breckenridge, to create a newly designated School Based Health Center (SBHC).
The Care Clinic provides preventative dental care and behavioral health visits to all schools within the Summit School District, Lake County School District, and the Park RE-2 School District. To qualify as a federally funded School Based Health Center, a school must offer medical, dental, and behavioral health services on campus. The addition of medical facilities at Upper Blue expands access to convenient, affordable, and integrated high-quality healthcare for students, their families, and school staff.
Upper Blue Elementary’s new SBHC is the fifth in Summit County, joining Dillon Valley Elementary, Silverthorne Elementary, Summit Middle School, and Summit High School within the Community Care Clinic’s network. The Care Clinic also operates an SBHC at the Lake County High School and one in the Park County RE-2 campus.
“We are excited to now provide the medical component at Upper Blue Elementary, making healthcare more convenient for patients on the south end of Summit County. In addition to providing important medical, dental, and behavioral health services, school-based health centers help improve overall well-being by reducing, if not eliminating, the time and resources patients spend getting to appointments. This means shorter interruptions from the classroom for students, less time away from work for parents and staff, and more time for other aspects of their lives,” said Karen Augustyn, School Based Health Center director.
SBHC Services are available to all Summit, Lake, and Park RE-2 School District Students, staff, and families. The Care Clinic accepts private insurance, Medicaid, and CHP+, and provides a Sliding Fee Scale for those who are uninsured or under-insured.
