Summit Community Care Clinic in Frisco is excited to welcome a new pharmacist to its on-site pharmacy, Mountain Cares Pharmacy, as the clinic celebrates the pharmacy’s one-year anniversary.
Mountain Cares Pharmacy opened on September 12, 2022, to provide further integration of care for the Care Clinic’s patients by reducing barriers associated with income and transportation challenges.
Breckenridge resident Allison Herbst joined Mountain Cares pharmacy in August 2023 and manages its daily operations such as filling prescriptions and ordering inventory. More importantly, Herbst works directly with patients and their care providers at the Care Clinic to better understand their medical history and course of treatment, and to monitor the efficacy and side effects of prescribed medications to support better overall health outcomes.
“My favorite part about working here, and why I wanted to work here in the first place, is having the pharmacy in the clinic. I have access to patient charts. I can message the providers quickly if I have questions. This improves patient adherence and helps provide them with a continuation of care. It's a one stop shop - patients can see their provider, the provider can send their prescriptions to the pharmacy, and patients can pick up the medications on their way out of their appointment, no need to drive to a pharmacy and wait,” said Herbst.
Herbst grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado’s Skaggs School of Pharmacy to pursue a career in which she feels like she can best help people and make a positive impact. A Breckenridge resident for the past three years, Herbst began her pharmacy career two years ago as the pharmacy manager at Safeway in Frisco.
In addition to convenience, Care Clinic patients can take advantage of the pharmacy’s low-cost medications. The Pharmacy participates in the 340B drug price control program, which provides significant discounts on outpatient prescription drugs to eligible health care facilities that serve high volumes of low-income patients. As part of the Care Clinic, the pharmacy accepts private insurance, Medicaid, and CHP+, and provides a Sliding Fee Scale for those who are uninsured or under-insured. Good-Rx coupons are not accepted.
Allison Herbst’s goal is to continue to grow the pharmacy and the pharmacy staff with hopes of a new technician joining the team soon. In her spare time, Herbst loves to ski in the winter and ride her gravel bike in the summer.
