Por Tu Familia
Por Tu Familia is a peer support group for Spanish speaking patients and their families who have a diagnosis of diabetes or pre-diabetes. The group meets once a month on the 2nd Tuesday from 5-7pm. At the meetings participants get free glucose screenings, pneumonia and flu vaccines, and healthy snacks and recipes. Additionally, each month there is a speaker who comes and provides education and support on relevant topics, including exercise, healthy Hispanic cooking, depression and diabetes, optical health and oral health. All information is presented in a culturally relevant manner. This group has been in existence since 2005, and patients who attend regularly have better health outcomes than our diabetic patients who do not attend.
